Throwback Thursday: Sonic the Hedgehog 2

It's Thursday, and you know what that means - retro gaming!

Today we're covering one of my favorite vintage video games - Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Sonic 2 was developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega in 1992. The game was a 2D sliding platform game that required the player to guide sonic through obstacles within the 10 minute time frame. In addition, players have to collect the infamous Golden Rings. The game allowed players to choose to play as either Sonic or Tails. If two players were working together, the screen would always stay on Sonic.

While the game was similar to the first Sonic, it included a few improvements. Sonic 2 had larger levels and faster game play. In addition, it included a new stunt called "Spin Dash" that allowed you to easily break barriers and gain fast momentum.

The game was so popular that it was be re-released years later for the Nintendo Wii in 2007 and for Xbox Live Arcade in 2011. It was ranked in the top 3 best selling Sega Genesis of all time. With achievements like these, it's no wonder Sonic 2 belongs in the vault!
